The Novi Police Department is dedicated to providing quality police service to our community. As part of that dedication, we took the steps necessary to enter into the accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®). We earned initial accreditation with CALEA® on July 29, 2017 and reaccreditation on July 29, 2021. In addition to the law enforcement program, our communications center earned initial accreditation on July 16, 2021.
Accreditation is an ongoing, demanding process which requires the department ensure that our written directives meet CALEA® law enforcement and communications standards. Each year the department must prove that we are following those directives. The department is assessed for reaccreditation every four years.
Anyone wishing to provide comments regarding the Novi Police Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status, may provide comments to CALEA through the following Public Comment Portal:
Comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide our agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
Complaints and commendations not related to CALEA® Accreditation can be handled by the Novi Police Department in-person, by phone, by mail, or by visiting www.cityofnovi.org.
