Description

The Wayne County Department of Public Services plans to replace nearly one mile of concrete on Base Line Road (8 Mile Road) from Woodcreek Boulevard to Orchard Hill Place in Northville Township. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 13, 2024. The project is expected to conclude by Winter 2024, barring any unforeseen delays or inclement weather. In addition to concrete replacement, the project will include the installation of guardrails, sidewalk ramps, pavement markings, and signage.

The project will take place in three stages:

  • Stage 1: Concrete replacement for the north side of Base Line Road (8 Mile Road). One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times during construction.
  • Stage 2: Concrete replacement for the south side of Base Line Road (8 Mile Road). One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times during construction.
  • Stage 3: Concrete replacement for the middle lane of Base Line Road (8 Mile Road). One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times during construction.

Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained for the duration of the project. Reduced speeds, load restrictions, and signage may be in place.

Drivers may experience delays and should exercise caution when traveling through work zones. Flaggers will be present as needed.

Base Line Road (8 Mile Road) from Meadowbrook to the CSX Railroad Bridge. This segment of Base Line Road (8 Mile Road) will be resurfaced. The start date is to be determined but will occur in the summer or fall of 2024. The project is expected to take about a month to complete.

Base Line Road (8 Mile Road) Bridge (CSX). Wayne County is finalizing the design of the Base Line bridge. We expect all utility lines to be relocated by July 2024. Upon the completion of the utility relocation, MDOT will proceed with the letting process. The construction is expected to start at the end of 2024 or early 2025.
The bridge project will include deck replacement, steel beam painting, bearing replacement, and substructure patching. This bridge is down to one lane in each direction to limit the weight load and was done to extend the life of the bridge until repairs could be made, rather than closing the bridge altogether.
