A heat wave is hitting southeast Michigan with multiple days of extreme temperatures expected throughout this week. DTE Energy teams are working 24/7 to strengthen our energy grid - both generation and distribution - to withstand increasingly extreme weather.

We’re also working with our communities to keep our customers safe. Our teams are distributing hundreds of fans to non-profits to keep customers cool along with delivering nearly 76,000 bottles of water at 20 community partner locations across SE Michigan in the following counties:

  • Macomb
  • Monroe
  • Oakland
  • Washtenaw
  • Wayne

The DTE Foundation has also partnered with United Way to provide 500 rides to Detroit cooling centers to keep customers safe.

We’re concerned about your safety and well-being during these extreme temperatures. If you’re know of anyone who is concerned about not being able to pay their energy bill, please ask them to contact us for help right away. We have programs and assistance available. Visit dteenergy.com/help or call us at 1-800-477-4747.

Safety is always DTE’s #1 priority

We encourage everyone to use caution during these high temperature days. Below are some tips to stay safe.

  • Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of direct sunlight if possible, bring pets indoors and check on others.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing
  • Don’t leave people or pets in your car
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated
  • Avoid high energy activity or outdoor work during midday heat, if possible
  • Check on family, seniors and neighbors
  • Know the signs of heat sickness and watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke
