The City of Novi has proudly been a Tree City USA (TCUSA) designee for 30+ years and is one of the few communities in Michigan to have received enough TCUSA Growth Awards to earn Sterling Tree City status.

The TCUSA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. The organization also grants Growth Awards to communities which go above and beyond the following TCUSA standards:

  1. A Tree Board or Department that’s legally responsible for the care of all trees on public property must be in place.
  2. A basic tree care ordinance must be in place.
  3. The community’s forestry program must have an annual budget of at least $2 per capita.
  4. Communities must host an annual Arbor Day observance event and an official Arbor Day proclamation must be passed by public officials
