Novi Youth Assistance offers Yoga & Mindfulness program to families

Novi Youth Assistance offered four weeks of free partner yoga classes to Novi’s youth and their parents and guardians. In the weekly 1-hour sessions, participants practiced mindfulness, breathing, stretching and challenging partner poses. This was the first time NYA offered this program, reaching the classes max capacity within 24 hours of opening registration.

Novi Youth Assistance is a community-based program whose mission is to strengthen youth and families and to prevent and reduce delinquency, neglect, and abuse through community involvement. Novi Youth Assistance initiatives are supported by a unique tri-sponsorship agreement between Oakland County Circuit Court-Family Division, the Novi Public School District, and the City of Novi. Six selected youth from the Novi community went on a shopping extravaganza with Novi Public Safety Team on Wednesday, August 11th. The annual event took place at Kohl’s department store located in West Oaks mall, who provided a generous 20% discount to each of our shoppers. All of the shoppers left Kohl’s with shopping bags full of new apparel. Novi Youth Assistance’s Back to School Shopping program intends to help students get excited and prepared for the upcoming school year.

In connection with the Novi Police and Fire Departments, this program pairs students with local heroes to shop for holiday items at the Target store in Novi.

The Back to School Shopping program intends to help students get excited and prepared for the new school year with some new apparel. Students are paired with community volunteers from the Novi Police Department, Novi Fire Department, and Novi City Council to shop at the Novi Kohl’s store.

NYA acquires backpacks and school supplies and distributes them to Novi students.
