NOVI, Mich., May 8, 2019 – The City of Novi has once again received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. This is the 21st consecutive year the City has earned the award.
This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. For a government to earn this award it must meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate people to read the report.
Commonly referred to as “the audit”, the financial reporting prepared by Novi staff is completed soon after the fiscal year closes to aid City leadership in policy making. The City of Novi has a long history of fiscal transparency, evidenced by televised Council and Commission meetings, public Budget Sessions, comprehensive website (with supporting materials for meetings) and more.
In addition to the award for a comprehensive annual financial report, the City of Novi regularly earns recognition for distinguished budget presentation.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving 20,000 government finance professionals throughout North America, and has offices located in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
