– A $14,300 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in January was recently used to provide the Novi Fire Department with some valuable training tools.
The grant money helped the department purchase the Lion Magnum Hose Line & Fire Extinguisher Trainer, a training prop that can be used for full scale, hands-on training for both firefighters and residents.
“Portable fire extinguishers are an important line of defense and life safety device that help protect citizens and property from fire,” said Jeff Johnson, Novi’s Director of EMS/Fire Operations. “In many areas, fire extinguishers are required by codes, however many of the individuals using the fire extinguishers are untrained. This product will help fill this void in training.”
The rugged design of the trainer also is tough enough to handle a high-pressure hose and will be used during training exercises for Novi firefighters.
Grant allocations are made possible thanks to the overwhelming support of Firehouse Subs restaurants and generous donors. Each restaurant recycles five-gallon pickle buckets, available to guests for a $2 donation to the Foundation. Donation canisters on register counters collect spare change, while the Round Up Program allows guests to “round up” their bill to the nearest dollar. The Firehouse Subs location in Novi is located at 48955 Grand River Avenue.
