Novi - Better Roads Ahead

In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/ side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.

The City uses a formal asset management program that categorizes roads based on a Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating system (PASER). Roads in poor condition are candidates for reconstruction or rehabilitation. Those in fair condition receive capital preventive maintenance, while roads in good condition are candidates for routine maintenance work. The lowest rated roads in each of these categories are generally addressed first.

Special Construction Advisory

Crescent Boulevard Rehabilitation (west-side of Novi Road)

The City of Novi’s contractor (Toebe Construction, LLC) and consulting engineer (AECOM-Great Lakes) will begin work on Saturday, October 19th, on Crescent Boulevard near Novi Road which will consist of removing and replacing approximately 175-feet of deteriorated concrete on the existing portion of Crescent Boulevard, immediately west of Novi Road.

Removal and replacement of this concrete will take place in two stages. The first stage will be the rehabilitation of the interior lanes of Crescent Boulevard. The second stage will be the rehabilitation of the outer lanes of Crescent Boulevard. During the second stage, the driveway on the north side of Crescent Boulevard (into the plaza with Qdoba, Blaze Pizza, et. al.) will be CLOSED, but there will be signage instructing motorists to access those buildings via Adell Center Drive. The pavement in front of the driveway on the south side of Crescent Boulevard (Sprint) is in good condition and will not require removal.

While the inner lanes are closed (Stage 1) the left turn lane on northbound Novi Road will be CLOSED to all vehicles.

While the outer lanes are closed (Stage 2) there will be NO right turns allowed for TRUCKS ONLY onto Crescent Boulevard from southbound Novi Road.

Attached are ‘Work Plans’ for both stages to better clarify the above methodology. Each stage will take approximately one (1) week to complete.

Bridge Construction

We have received some updated scheduling and order from the contractor on each of the three bridges:
  • West Park Drive bridge over the CSX Railroad (between 12 Mile and West Road) – The contractor reopened West Park Drive bridge and closed the Meadowbrook Road bridge on Tuesday, September 17th.

  • The contractor reopened the Meadowbrook Road bridge on Friday, October 11th.

  • The contractor will plan to close the Cranbrooke Drive bridge on Monday, October 21st. A majority of the work planned for this bridge is slated for the northbound side. All work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
