Novi - Better Roads Ahead

In August 2012, Novi citizens overwhelmingly passed a road millage allowing for more than $5 million to be used in annual road and pathway investments. Funds will be used to maintain and improve neighborhood (subdivision/ side streets) and major municipal roadways (mile roads, Beck Road, etc.), and to make sidewalk and pathway connections.

The City uses a formal asset management program that categorizes roads based on a Pavement Surface Evaluation and Rating system (PASER). Roads in poor condition are candidates for reconstruction or rehabilitation. Those in fair condition receive capital preventive maintenance, while roads in good condition are candidates for routine maintenance work. The lowest rated roads in each of these categories are generally addressed first.

Special Construction Advisory

We have received some updated scheduling and order from the contractor on each of the three bridges:

  • West Park Drive bridge over the CSX Railroad (between 12 Mile and West Road) – The contractor expects to reopen the West Park Drive bridge 9/16 after 5pm.
    Map - Designated Detour

  • Meadowbrook Road bridge over Ingersol Creek (between 9 and 10 Mile) – Due to the reopening process of the West Park Drive bridge, the Meadowbrook Road bridge that was supposed to close the morning of 9/6 has been postponed to 9/17. The plan is to now close Meadowbrook Road to thru traffic between Nine & 10 Mile Road starting at 9am 9/17.  This bridge project should be wrapped up by Saturday, 9/28.

  • Cranbrooke Drive bridge over Ingersol Creek (between 10 Mile and Nilan Drive) – CLOSING on Monday, September 30th and reopening on October 19th.

Actual MDOT approved Progress Schedule is attached. Some of these closure periods may be shorter than what is described above as some work may not be as intrusive as planned or operations can be consolidated in the field for better efficiency. Please stay tuned to the Weekly Road Construction Updates for more information and/or date changes.
