The Novi Public Safety Administration would like to extend their appreciation and congratulations to Sergeant Michael Warren on his nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employee of the Month – February 2017.  Sergeant Warren was nominated by Sergeant Kulikowski and selected by the Implementation Committee for his dedication, attention to detail, and professionalism.

Starting in 2016, Sergeant Warren oversaw the hand gun transition from the Sig Sauer P229 .40 caliber to the Glock 17 Gen4 9mm. The transition included the purchase of 150 guns (75 Glock Model 17s and 75 Glock Model 43s) which provided two guns for each sworn personnel in the department.  The purchase and transition was an exhaustive undertaking and took approximately one year to complete.  Initially, Sergeant Warren collected three estimates on the cost of the transition including the guns, holsters, flashlights, and ammunition.  Sergeant Warren then collaborated with the Finance Department to write the bid specifications.  Additionally, he supervised the delivery of the equipment.  Sergeant Warren set a target of having every sworn member of the Novi Police Department transitioned to the Glock pistols by the end of December, 2016.  With the exception of one make-up class that was beyond his control, Sergeant Warren met his goal.

Once the transition was completed, he supervised the trade-in of the seventy (70) current department issued Sig Sauer .40 caliber handguns.  That procedure included determining who was going to purchase their Sig Sauer, coordinating the required FFL paperwork, purchasing paperwork, and making the buyback process effortless for those taking advantage of the program.  In addition to completing this year long project in February, Sergeant Warren hosted three CPL classes that same month.  One attendee gave him public recognition stating; “I just wanted to send you a quick note to thank you for the outstanding CPL class on February 4th. You made my family feel safe and confident in what we were learning.  My wife said it best on the ride home; she said Mike is doing what he is supposed to be doing.  Keep doing what you do and this world will be a safer place.”

During this year long transition, Sergeant Warren remained committed to the process of satisfying all of the department’s needs and were a consummate professional with those you encountered.  It is for these reasons that Sergeant Michael Warren was named Public Safety Employee of the Month – February 2017.
