July 2016 - Officer Alisa Brown
Officer Alisa Brown
The Novi Public Safety Administration would like to extend their appreciation and congratulations to Officer Alisa Brown on her nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employee of the Month – July, 2016. Officer Brown was nominated by Sergeants Kulikowski and Woloski along with Cadet Lang for separate incidents.
On July 24, 2016, at approximately 11:06 a.m., officers were dispatched to Kohl's on a Retail Fraud in progress. The suspect was actively selecting merchandise and concealing it inside his pockets. Further information was provided that the suspect had a pistol in his waistband along with a hunting knife. As Officer Brown was responding, the suspect exited the store and she was able to disarm him without incident and place the suspect into custody. It was then determined the gun, a silver/black pistol, was actually a BB gun.
Upon searching through the suspect’s property, Officer Brown located identification belonging to other potential victims. Officer Brown obtained a consent search for the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of Kohl's and were able to recover additional stolen property. After locating these items, Officer Brown investigation determined that these items were property from victims of larceny from automobile complaints the previous evening in the Village of Milford.
Officer Brown’s attention to detail and persistent follow-up with this investigation helped solve multiple crimes in Novi and Milford.
During a separate incident in July Officer Brown met a young man who had been struggling behaviorally. She saw the potential the juvenile had, took him under her wing, and set up a ride-a-long. During the ride-a-long, the boy expressed his interest in becoming a doctor in which Officer Brown took it upon herself to introduce him to a doctor she knew so he could shadow him while at work. The compassion Officer Brown displayed surely made a difference in this young man’s life and is consistent with the way she presents herself day in and day out.
