The Novi Public Safety Administration extends their appreciation and congratulations to Records Clerk Gerylann Garris on her nomination and selection as the Novi Public Safety Employee of the Month for August, 2014. Gerylann was nominated by Fire Chief Jeff Johnson and overwhelmingly selected by the Implementation Committee for consistently outstanding work on behalf of the Novi Fire Department.
Over four years ago, Gerylann’s job duties changed dramatically. In addition to her police records assignment, she was given additional accountabilities which involved coordinating and maintaining the Novi Fire Department and EMS records. Integrated into her daily police records obligations, the new responsibilities include reporting all the Novi Fire and EMS data to Oakland County, the State EMS Repository, the Michigan State Fire Marshal, and the National Fire Incident Reporting System. Furthermore, Gerylann is the point person for all of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests submitted for Fire and Police records. Director Johnson spoke of the “Exceptional manner” in which Gerylann carries out the FOIA requirements, which is especially important as they have built in timelines set by state statute.
Gerylann’s follow-up, persistence, and diligence in carrying out her job requirements reflect positively upon each member of the Novi Police and Fire departments. Her attention to detail and professionalism serve as an example to all and her work truly benefits the nearly 57,000 residents of the City of Novi. It is with great pride that we recognize Gerylann Garris for her outstanding work.
