June 2014 - Randy Mince
Randy Mince was selected as Public Safety Employee of the Month – June 2014 for his thoroughness and professionalism as the Officer in Charge of the Lakshminivasa Nerusu trial. Detective Mince handled everything from trial preparation, evidence handling, scheduling witness testimony, to assisting in jury selection. Without his dedication and drive, this trial would not have progressed so smoothly. On June 12, 2014, Lakshminivasa Nerusu was found guilty of three counts of first degree, premeditated murder of his wife Jayalakshmi Nerusu and two children, Tejasvi Nerusu and Siva Kumar Nerusu.
One example of Detective Mince's work ethic/professionalism during trial came from MSP Lab Manager Guy Nutter who stated "I testified Tuesday and Wednesday in the triple from 2008. Once again I was thoroughly impressed with one of your personnel and felt compelled to let you guys know. This seems to happen every time I work with Novi and I'm starting to feel like I am gloating over you guys too often. I work with a lot of different departments when it comes to the Novi Police Department; I am continually impressed every time. You guys clearly stand out as one of the most squared away and professional departments I interact with in the state of Michigan. In this case, it was Detective Randy Mince. He was extremely professional in every sense of the word. He was tasked with opening evidence and presenting it to me on the stand and then displaying it for the jury. Most would have fumbled through it and contaminated everything. Randy handled the containers with a bare hand and the evidence with a gloved hand perfectly. He honestly did a better job than I would have!"
