That time of year is upon us again. Youngsters going back to school! Whether we are purchasing “back to school clothes” or attending family orientation at a State college, that wonderful time of year in Michigan is back again.
Whether it’s a new freshman at college or a returning third grader, remind all of the students in your family of a few vitally important safety tips:
Be extra careful while waiting for school buses. Students may be new to the area, bus drivers may be new to the bus route and drivers may have forgotten about children walking along roadways!
Be aware of your surroundings - other persons, other students and other vehicles!
Students who are new drivers should also watch out at bus stops, school routes and in subdivisions.
Pay attention while driving! A moment of inattention while driving can result in a tragedy! You can return the text message later!
New or returning college students should take fire safety seriously. They will be living in a new environment that will be unfamiliar when awakening. Take smoke detectors to their new living quarters or even a safety ladder for the historic fraternity or sorority house.
The State of Michigan, along with 19 other states, recognizes September as Campus Fire Safety Month.
Being prepared is being safe! Being safe is being prepared!
