Construction Inspections and Community Development operations resume fully in accordance with Executive Order 2020-70
The City of Novi Community Development Department resumes full operations at 8:00am May 7, 2020 in accordance with the limitations imposed by the Governors order. Although the Novi Civic Center remains closed to the public, inspections may be scheduled online beginning May 6.
Applications and submittals may be made through the web portal for registered contractors. Mail and drop-off options are available. Drop-off and pickup boxes are available in the vestibule of the north Civic Center entrance (closest to Ten Mile Road). Online payment options are also available along with mail in and drop off options. All staff are available through email and phone. Remote meetings can be scheduled.
Please note that the Executive Order includes specific safeguards in sections 11(h) and (i). If you cannot comply with these requirements do not schedule inspections until such time as you can. The Community Development Department has the primary responsibility for administering the laws, regulations and requirements that pertain to the physical development of the Novi Community.

The Planning, Building and Code Compliance Divisions work in partnership to bring streamlined and accurate information and development review procedures to Novi community members, businesses, and prospective developers. Specific tasks include administering planning and building permit procedures, providing public information, performing building and code enforcement inspections, maintaining complete public records on planning and building projects and issuing necessary permits, certificates, approvals and enforcement citations.
The Planning Division is responsible for both current and long range administration of State, regional and local land use laws and Plans such as zoning, the Master Plan for Land Use, the environmental regulations and the subdivision regulations. The Building Division conducts the administrative and regulatory responsibilities of the Uniform Building, Plumbing, Mechanical and Housing Codes, as well as the National Electrical Code.
