Peter E. Auger was appointed as City Manager of the City of Novi in September 2014. Prior to coming to Novi, Mr. Auger was the City Manager of Auburn Hills, Michigan. He has nearly three decades of public service experience, including his service in the U.S. Army where he was a non-commissioned officer. He credits much of his leadership experiences on team building back to the basics of team sports, playing college and semi-professional football and international basketball, representing the Army.
Mr. Auger received his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University and completed his Master of Public Administration degree at Oakland University. He also is a graduate of the Gettysburg Leadership Institute and completed the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. In addition, he is a Credentialed City Manager through the International City Managers Association.
Mr. Auger prides himself on building teams to accomplish community goals, raise standards and create more opportunities. Some of these efforts have been noticed through his team’s accomplishments in areas like the Michigan’s Best Well Head Protection Program which also was honored as the Best Well Head Protection Program in the Nation or the Best Water Utility in Michigan.
In 2010, Mr. Auger was selected for a week long Fellowship on Economic Development in the Ruhr Valley Region (around Essen Germany) speaking on economic development practices and comparing his practices to those implemented in the European Union. In 2012, he was selected as a Finalist for Crain’s Detroit CFO of the year.
Mr. Auger has served on many different boards including past President of the Michigan Municipal Executives (MME) and past Chair for the Municipal Services Committee for the Michigan Municipal League (MML).
Pete is married to Jennifer and together they have 6 children.
