I-96 Transportation Study
MDOT logo
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is conducting a survey regarding the I-96 Corridor Study that is being co-sponsored by the City of Novi.
I96 Traffic Study
 Study Area Map Reference
This project includes a major land use and transportation study of the greater I-96 corridor from I-275 to Wixom Road bounded by Twelve Mile Road and Grand River Avenue.  The project will incorporate cooperative efforts with MDOT, RCOC, and the City of Wixom while taking advantage of major private investment relationships with Providence Hospital, Twelve Oaks Mall, Rock Financial Showplace and others.  The study will address road access, beautification and widening improvements for traffic safety and economic development.  The corridor is high value to the region and the City of Novi.  MDOT has high interest because of the volume and congestion on the freeway (average daily traffic counts of 132,300 on I-96 east and westbound).  For the City of Novi, the corridor represents the main thoroughfares of Grand River Avenue, I-96, and Twelve Mile Road which residents and commerce rely upon daily and which are all in need of upgrades. By carefully studying this key area of the community, the City’s future is better planned for, via the Master Plan for Land Use, the Capital Improvement Plan, and other tools used to forecast and guide future development.  The study's final report will be submitted to the City of Novi in December 2010.
