The Records Section of the Novi Police Department is currently
staffed by seven civilian employees and one manager that handle
duties ranging from greeting citizens at the front desk to compiling
department statistics.
Regular business hours for the Records Section are 8:00am to
5:00pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
Following is a listing of duties carried out by the Records
Section and the times that specific duties are handled.
Copies of Reports:
Accident reports are $3.00 per report. All other reports are $1.00
per page. Citizens may mail their check, drop it off or appear at
the Records Section during normal business hours to obtain a copy
of a report. Please allow time for processing the report,
and call ahead to make sure the report has been processed before
coming into the station. Records will not bill (invoice) for
reports.
Citizens may purchase copies of accident reports online on the
TRACView website.
All insurance companies must purchase accident reports through
TRACview.
Handgun Purchase
Permits/Registrations:
9:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Proof
of citizenship and Novi residency are required.
When you bring
your firearm into the police department, the weapon must be
unloaded,
with the action open, and
in a gun case.
DO
NOT CONCEAL THE WEAPON ON YOUR PERSON,
even if you have a valid concealed weapons permit. Upon entering
the building, check in the front desk for further instructions.
Concealed Weapons Permits:
Obtain a CCW packet at any Police Department, Sheriff Department
or
County Clerk Office. A complete CCW process may take 3-6
months.
Fingerprinting:
During normal business hours with a charge of $2.00 per person for
Novi residents and $5.00 per person for non-residents..
Impounded Vehicles:
To claim your vehicle, you must bring proof of ownership
(registration or title) and identification.
First 2 false alarms occurring within a one year period - no
fine
Third false alarm occurring within a one year period -
$50.00
Fourth false alarm occurring within a one year period -
$75.00
Fifth false alarm occurring within a one year period -
$100.00
Sixth and subsequent false alarms occurring within a one
year period - $190.00
Criminal background checks:
Come into the office with a driver's license or state I.D. We will
check to see if you've ever been arrested by Novi and will provide
you with a letter stating the results. There is no charge for this
service. If you need a more extensive search, please contact the
Michigan State Police.
