MORNING TONE AND STRETCH

Build lean muscle mass in all the major muscles of the body with the use of hand held weights. Through a repetition of different exercises you will increase muscle mass and improve your bone density. You’ll benefit by preventing and/or reversing all forms of osteoporosis. You’ll also find that your daily activities are much easier. Floor mat and two 2-5 lb. weights recommended. ZUMBA GOLD

The South American dance is cropping up everywhere and with good reason – it is an innovative, fun and exciting cardio-based dance. Designed for the active older adult; the true beginner, those who are not used to exercising, or limited physically. POWER VINYASA YOGA

Vinyasa is a general name given to any flowing style of yoga. In this class we link breath with movement to create a moving meditation. It is a vigorous flow of postures (asanas) to build stamina, strength and flexibility while promoting weight loss. The asana sequences will be performed to balance and counter-balance the body. One attractive feature of this style of yoga is that no two classes are ever alike. There is a great deal of diversity in the flows and postures we will use. Come join us and try something different. NEW – STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING

Person stading up on paddleboardWould you like to strengthen your stability and balance while enjoying the tranquility of Novi’s finest natural setting? Move yourself to higher levels of fitness and restorative calm by being outside taking up the newest fitness and recreational sport for people of all ages and any activity level. No experience is necessary. This sport is growing in popularity with the 50+ crowd as well as families. Our instructor, Linda Brown of Paddle The Mitten is a surfer from California who is blazing a trail for the sport in Michigan. For more information on Stand UP Paddleboarding check out www.paddlethemitten.com . Paddleboards are provided and included in the fee. Classes are 1 hour and 20 minutes. SUP Beginner Class-Finding Your Inner Hawaiian: In our beginner SUP class, you will learn about the equipment, safety, the “how-to’s” of maneuvering, and the added benefits to your health and wellness. You will experience wildlife and the beauty of Michigan in a different way!

SUP Family Class-Parents, Children and Grandchildren: Class is designed to accommodate grandparents or parents who would like to have their child with them on one board or older children (10+) who wish to handle their own board. This class introduces SUP water safety; use of equipment and the many ways that you can add SUPing to your family fun. Our instructor specializes in teaching children about SUPing and nature.

SUPilates and SUPoga-Exclusive: This class is tailored for those 50+, people with arthritis or other medical concerns or individuals just seriously in need of stress relief. Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs) provide the perfect mat area to practice the ancient art of yoga combined with the non-traditional Pilates. The balance and concentration component will give you a sense of accomplishment in concert with relaxation and the energy found being on water. The beginner class is a pre-requisite for safety. All children (17 or younger) MUST be accompanied by a parent of guardian.

NEW -TAI CHI (balance & health restoration)

The ancient art of tai chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today’s busy lifestyles and achieve a sense of inner calm. This is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Our instructor will teach the “yang” style of tai chi with an emphasis on health restoration and maintenance. Movements are low impact and coordinated with breathing, making this form of exercise especially suitable for older adults who otherwise may not exercise. Class will have the option of meeting outside on beautiful days!

“Samurai ” Sport Sword – sport Weapons Training

KIDS POWER KARATE

This traditional martial arts training emphasizes self-defense, physical fitness, and conflict resolution, teamwork and anti-kidnapping techniques. This program is designed specifically for children and teaches prevention first. It does not promote active aggressiveness, but teaches children to respect themselves, others and the skills they learn. GIRLS INTRODUCTORY GYMNASTICS

This class introduces girls to the four gymnastics events: floor (tumbling), balance beam, bars and vault. Your child will learn the proper way to do basic skills on each of the four events. Classes are taught using stations to give your child multiple attempts at the skills being learned. Many training accessories are used to ensure success while learning gymnastics skills. HOUSE OF SPEED PERFORMANCE TRAINING

This training program focuses on the one quality athletes need most regardless of sport, and that is – SPEED! Nature Program

Gene Wasserman from the Michigan Bluebird Society and owner of WoodCraft Kits will present information about identifying and attracting Eastern Bluebirds and other Michigan song birds to you backyard. The presentation will include information about providing nest boxes, feeders, and landscaping to attract and learn about Michigan’s song birds. Come join this tennis league that fits into any busy schedule! Fourteen matches are scheduled on a weekly basis with your opponent at a convenient time and location for both. Players will be assigned to the appropriate division based on their level of competitive play. All players must submit their USTA rating, which can be determined through usta.com (professionally OR self-rated). Players must be 18 years old by May 21, 2012. A league banquet at the end of the season and participant T-shirt are included in the registration price. League participants will be able to sign up for a free group lesson on Saturday, May 19th at ITC Community Sports Park. Times to be determined when divisions are formed. If you are interested in joining the Tennis Advisory Committee or score keeping for your division, please make a note when registering. NEW - SAND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES

Come work on your tan and play in the sand overlooking Walled Lake. Lakeshore Park has two newly renovated sand volleyball courts ready for action! Adult sand volleyball leagues will be offered for four person teams with both recreational and competitive levels of play. All teams will be scheduled for 10 weeks of regular season games followed by tournament play. Managers meeting will be held at Lakeshore Park on Wednesday, May 30 at 6 pm. FIVB Official Sand Volleyball Rules will be in effect. All games will be officiated. $10 official fee must be paid cash directly by teams before the start of each match. *Please note no games Wed, July 4.

NEW - SAND VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENTS

Spend a Saturday playing sand volleyball with your friends at Lakeshore Park, on beautiful Walled Lake. Two newly renovated courts will play host to several tournaments this summer and provide opportunities for high level players to compete in a premier setting. All games will be officiated and FIVB Official Sand Volleyball Rules will be in effect. Schedules will be released the Wednesday before each tournament. Players must be 18 years of age to participate and will be required to sign rosters/waivers before starting play. All tournaments will be limited to 8 teams so register early! TENNIS LESSONS

Create a racquet and have a ball, while enjoying a lifetime sport! Beginners will be introduced to the basic skills of ground strokes, volleys and serves. The intermediate level will provide an opportunity for players with some tennis experience to review the basics and moving forward at a quicker pace. Drills, games, and some match play will be incorporated, depending on skill levels demonstrated.

Each session will include six lessons (with a maximum student/instructor ratio at 1 to 6!). Sign up quick to enjoy the personalized instruction – classes will fill up. Choose either session or both! Bring a tennis racquet and water. All lessons will be held at Rotary Park.

NOVI CRICKET CUP

Compete and socialize with cricket enthusiasts! The second annual Novi Cricket Cup will be held at the beautiful, recently upgraded, Ella Mae Power Park and ITC Community Sports Park. Last year, 16 teams from Metro Detroit and Lansing competed for the championship. Modified ‘T-ball’ cricket rules will apply. Teams will be guaranteed three matches (approximately 2 hours each). Tournament schedule will be posted Tuesday, July 10.

All teams and their families are invited to Opening Ceremonies at the Novi Civic Center - Friday, July 13 at 7pm. Participants will be welcomed by city officials and last year’s champions will be recognized. Snacks and beverages will be provided. All teams will play three matches on Saturday, July 14. The top 8 teams will advance to knockout rounds on Sunday.

FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUES

Softball leagues are available for recreational and competitive teams. All leagues include 5 weeks of double headers, totaling 10 regular season games. The recently renovated Ella Mae Power Park (selected host for the 2009 ASA Michigan JO State Championships, the 2010, 2011 and 2012 ASA Northern National Tournaments) provides optimal playing conditions at any competition level. The park features new fencing, red clay infields, irrigated outfields, new Musco “Green” lighting system, new concession facility, plenty of parking and a play structure for kids! Register as a competitive or recreational team or call the Parks Office to at 248.347.0400 to sign up as an individual. League Champions receive individual and sponsor awards.
Additional Information: Umpire fees per game are $15 per team. A manager’s meeting will be held Wed, Aug 22, 6:30pm at the Novi Civic Center.

SOFTBALL COED SCRAMBLE TOURNAMENT

Register as an individual OR a couple and be randomly assigned to teams for this fun-filled, laid back, slow-pitch softball tournament at the beautiful Ella Mae Power Park. Players of all ability levels are encouraged to participate! Each team will be guaranteed four games minimum. Umpire fees are included with registration. ASA and City of Novi League rules will apply. T-BALL, COACH PITCH AND FASTPITCH SOFTBALL

Swing batter, batter, swing! Get your child active and outdoors this summer! Your child will learn the fundamentals of baseball/softball; including base running, hitting and throwing while learning the rules of the game and strategies. Practices will take place for the first two weeks. The rest of the season there will be two games per week on a weeknight. A T-shirt and a participation award are included. Your child must bring a glove bat. We will provide helmets with cages. If you bring your own helmet, it must have a cage attached. Please register your child for the grade they will be enrolled in for the 2012-13 school year. TRAVEL SOCCER LEAGUE - FALL

The travel soccer division is governed by WSSL (Western Suburban Soccer League). WSSL does not allow tryouts, so we take care of team formation and play other teams from surrounding communities at home and away locations (within 30 miles of Novi) on weekends and weekday evenings. When prompted during registration, individuals may put in their coach name. If an individual was not a part of a team from the previous season, we will place them based on availability. Players will receive a full uniform including a jersey, shorts, socks and award. Practices are scheduled to begin the week of August 27 and the season will end by the end of October.

Learn to Skate

The Novi Ice Arena Learn to Skate program is one of the 10 largest programs in the United States and follows the curriculum of the U.S. Figure Skating program. Lessons are given by highly qualified professional skating instructors. All classes are 30 minutes with an additional 30 minutes of practice, and enrolled skaters will receive a Public Skate punch card for a limited number of free admissions. Classes are offered for people of all ages and times and days vary to fit your schedule. Registration is

Learn To Play Hockey

The Learn to Play Hockey classes are a great way for kids aged 4-9 to begin learning the basics of the great game of hockey. Adult Summer Skills Series is ideal for any parents looking to learn with their kids or late comers to the game. Power Skating classes help current hockey players and figure skaters work on their skating ability and stride and are offered during the same timeframe. All classes are taught by highly qualified hockey instructors and are one hour in length.

SKATING CLUB OF NOVI

Established in 1998 with 25 members, the Skating Club of Novi is a volunteer organization that has been a member of the United States Figure Skating Association since 1999. Since then, the club has grown to over 150 members. The club is dedicated to the promotion of figure skating, and supports many activities at the Novi Ice Arena to further this goal. The Skating Club hosts the Annual Ice Show in the early spring that showcases the talents of our Learn to Skate students as well as our recreational and competitive figure skaters. Our coaching staff is for all levels of skaters, from beginner to competitive; individual freestyle and dance. On May 6-7, the Skating Club of Novi is hosting their annual ice show. This year’s theme is “Divas on Ice”. Tickets are
available in advance or at the door. Summer freestyle ice is available six days per week (Monday- Friday mornings and afternoons, and Saturday mornings). Please call the rink for times and levels.

 

Adult Summer Hockey Leagues

Various divisions will be offered for team registrations. The focus of these leagues is fun and even competition. There is no checking, early games times, updated standings, trained scorekeepers & officials, and awards for champions. Registration for summer leagues, which run from July-August, begins in June.

Novi Youth Hockey Association

Novi Ice Arena is home to the Novi Youth Hockey Association. The NYHA is a non-profit, volunteer lead organization committed to cultivating and developing youths in the sport of ice hockey. Both house and travel teams are offered to support players ranging from ages 4-18. 500+ players are active in the Novi house program with another 100+ travel players, making it one of the largest in Michigan and the USA. Over the years, NYHA teams have won state and district championships with many tournament wins in tow. The hockey season runs from early August (travel)/late August (house) through March. The house (beginning with the Squirt division) and travel teams participate within the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL), the nation’s largest amateur youth hockey league. Mini-Mite and Mite house players compete against local teams. The Association also offers “Learn to Play Hockey” programs. The NYHA also has specific offerings for girls’ programming. High School Hockey

Novi Ice Arena is the home of the Novi High School Wildcats and the Northville High School Mustangs. The High School hockey season begins in mid-November and runs through mid-March.
