About the Department
April 2008
The City of Novi Fire Department provides Fire and EMS protection
to the citizens using a variety of partners and a combination of
personnel. We are proud of the efficient service that solves many
problems of our taxpayers.
We were organized into a Fire department in 1929. Currently we
have a Paid-On-Call Captain, Gil Van Sickle, who has been on the
Novi Fire Department for 40 years. There was only one fire station,
on the east side of Novi road south of Grand River, when Gil was a
rookie firefighter in 1968. Today we house apparatus in four fire
stations strategically located throughout Novi.
Our fleet of apparatus includes four engines, three squads, a
ladder truck, rescue and tanker. Specialized equipment includes
hazardous materials supplies, technical rescue gear and water/ice
boats and rescue equipment.
The Fire Department has over 90 personnel including six in
Administration, 26 Fire Protection Officer’s (who are also state
certified Fire Inspectors) and 61 Paid- On-Call Firefighters
(including four new rookies who graduated in early April 2008).
Thanks for visiting our website and if you have any other
questions about the Fire Service in the City of Novi please give me
a call.
