Public Safety Staffing & Utilization Study
In 2009, the City of Novi commissioned the ICMA to conduct a Staffing and Utilization Study for Police and Fire/EMS services. These studies were performed to help answer the questions, "How are we using the resources we have for Police and Fire/EMS?” and “How can we better use those resources?” The reviews are of our most critical, complex, and expensive functions and done to reassure that we are staffed, resources are utilized, and the residents are receiving the best possible service with the resources we have without unnecessary additions. The recommendations are posted here in their entirety. For more information, contact Sheryl Walsh, Director of Communications.

Novi Fire Department provides firefighting services as well as Basic Life Support, Fire Prevention & Safety Education, and Fire Code enforcement to the Novi community.

The Fire Department has been established to protect the lives and property of the people of Novi from fire and other threatening circumstances.  To meet this commitment, the timely response and effective management of fire control situations, rescue, medical and environmental emergencies represent the most immediate priority of the Fire Department.

The Novi Fire Department was organized in 1929 and has been serving the Novi Community ever since.  It is staffed by a combination of full time and paid-on-call employees who operate from four fire stations located throughout the city. Full-time personnel staff the four stations Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 6:00pm.  Paid-on-call employees respond from their homes to calls in the evenings and weekends.

Fire equipment includes an aerial equipped pumper, three triple combination pumpers, one mini-pumper, one heavy rescue truck, one tanker truck, and three state licensed medical transport vehicles.

The Fire Department provides the following levels of service:

  • Fire Operations and Suppression
  • Medical First Response
  • Training
  • Public Education
  • Plan Review
  • Fire Code Enforcement
  • Building and Apparatus Maintenance
  • Fire Hydrant Maintenance
