Dive-Rescuers recover drowning victim from Walled Lake

NOVI, Michigan, July 7, 2008, 9:00pm – At approximately 8:15pm,
the Oakland County Sheriff's Dive Team & Marine Division recovered
the body of a 38-year-old, Novi male who was reported missing in
Walled Lake earlier today. The body was found in the same general
area as originally reported by witness accounts.
Earlier this afternoon, the Novi Fire Department was dispatched
to the shores of Walled Lake on a water rescue call. A witness on
the shore of West Lake Drive was able to safely rescue a 38-year-old
female and her 17-month-old male child, both from Novi, from the
water. The female and infant are being treated at Huron Valley
Hospital and are expected to recover.
Fire Department personnel confirmed through witness accounts one
person remained in the water. Firefighters utilized their marine
boat to enter the water immediately from South Lake Drive.
Divers from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Marine Division
entered the water and air support was provided from the Oakland
County Sheriff's Aviation Unit in search of the male victim.
The victim and rescued individuals were in a 17’ boat which was
launched in the area of the 1100-1200 block of West Lake Drive. The
location where this incident occurred is roughly 400-500 yards off
the northern portion of the lake. None of the individuals involved
in the incident were wearing a life jacket.
The names of the parties involved are not being released at this
time.
