Officer Jeff Brown and K-9 Yukon were recognized for their seven
years of service to the Novi Community. In September 2000, Officer
Brown was allowed by the City of Novi to become a K-9 handler for
the Novi Police Department. After a five-month training period,
Yukon joined Officer Brown on the road for the first time in
February, 2001, and over the next seven years earned Merit Citations
from the Chief of Police in 2001 and 2007 and Unit Citations in
2001, 02 and 07. In the twilight of his career, Yukon was diagnosed
with an incurable degenerative neurological disease. Yukon continued
to serve with distinction until April 2008.
“Yukon was a great friend and partner to me over our seven years
together. He will not only be missed by myself and my family but by
the entire Novi Police Department,” said Officer Brown. “This
tribute is a great honor not only to Yukon but to K-9 Officers
throughout the law enforcement community.”
“The dedication and commitment K-9 Officers have toward keeping
communities safe is evident from the first moment they begin their
training,” said Chief Molloy. “K-9 teams, such as Officer Brown and
Yukon, are not only vital towards maintaining a safe community but
provide an excellent community relations component of a police
department.”
