Press Release: Teen victim falls through ice on
area lake

Novi, Michigan, March 23, 2008 – At 1:24pm this afternoon, the
Novi Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a child
that had fallen through the ice at Village Oaks Lake, located
southeast of Ten Mile and Meadowbrook Roads.
The victim, a 13-year-old, Westland male, had been visiting
family in Novi for the Easter holiday. The victim was walking the
family dog across the ice when he fell through. The dog was able to
escape the water and return home. Family members ran to the lake,
where the hole in the ice was discovered. Novi Firefighters entered
the water and searched for the young man until the arrival of the
Oakland County Sheriff Department Dive Team at 2:04 pm. The Dive
Team recovered the victim’s body at 2:28pm.
The victim was pronounced deceased at 6:22pm at William Beaumont
Hospital in Royal Oak.
