FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVI, Michigan, February 26, 2008 –
On Monday, March 10, the City of Novi will partner with Shiga
Prefecture to host the Japanese Pottery Masters of Shigaraki-yaki in
the Novi Civic Center, located at 45175 W. Ten Mile Road, between

Shigaraki-yaki is the pottery
produced in the Shigaraki region of Koka City, centrally located in
the Osaka-Kyoto region of Japan. Pottery production in Shigaraki
dates back over 1250 years to 742, when Emperor Shomu built a palace
in Shigaraki using roof tiles and vessels fired from local clay.
Shigaraki-yaki took on an important role in people’s daily lives.
Pottery masters Mr. Shizuo Tamura and
Mr. Eizan Okuda will demonstrate their skills while producing
exquisite works of art. Both have had their work featured across
Japan and are well-versed in the traditional Japanese arts. Mr.
Okuda and Ms. Soyu Nabeta will perform a traditional Japanese tea
ceremony using Shigaraki tea ware.
