FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Novi, Michigan, January 21, 2008 – Shortly after midnight, Novi
and Detroit Police Officers located 11-year-old, Kahliel Nash at a
residence in the City of Detroit. Nash was unharmed and returned to
the custody of his grandmother in Novi.
At approximately, 5:30pm on January 20th, the Novi Police
Department responded to a 911 call stating that the child had been
taken from his residence in the Wexford Townhomes. The grandmother
and legal guardian reported Nash had been taken by Ursula Purry, his
biological mother, and Darius Martin, Purry’s 19-year-old son. The
grandmother stated the suspects forced their way into her home,
demanded money and ordered the child into a black Bronco-type
vehicle being driven by an unidentified third suspect. The suspect
vehicle drove away in an unknown direction. Shortly before 9:00pm,
the Michigan State Police activated the Amber Alert Plan in response
to a request from the Novi Police Department regarding the incident.
Nash’s mother, Ursula Purry, and Darius Martin were also located
at the residence and taken into custody by Novi Police Officers on
charges of Domestic Violence. Officers were called to the location
by Purry who, after watching media reports on the Amber Alert, made
contact with Novi Investigators.
Ursula Purry and Darius Martin are currently lodged at the Novi
Police Department pending arraignment at the Oakland County Circuit
Court.
