Starting a fitness program may be one of the best things you can do for your health. Physical activity can improve bone and heart health, improve balance and coordination, develop muscle strength, and assist with weight loss. The Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department offers a variety of fitness classes from low impact workouts that help strengthen and tone muscles to high-impact aerobics which helps burn fat and calories. Classes are available morning, evening and weekends and our professional instructors will help guide you to a healthier you.

Fitness Tip of the Season:
Many individuals take walks to get their exercise, but to build up your endurance, it’s important to walk often and walk briskly. Brisk walking increases your breathing and heart rate for an extended period of time. To vary your routine, try one of the many fitness classes offered. How do I find the “right” class for me? Listed below you’ll find a variety of fitness classes that vary from high impact aerobics to gentle strength building. Each program includes age suggestions. These are suggestions; you’re encouraged to reference the ability icon to determine if the class may be right for you. Still not sure? Contact us to try one class free of charge. Call 248.347.0414 for details.

The City of Novi offers group fitness classes that can make your muscles stronger, increase cardiovascular strength and bone density, and improve balance and flexibility. Remember to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you haven’t exercised for a long time, have chronic health problems, or you have any concerns. Novi Ice Arena is home to the Novi Youth Hockey Association. The NYHA is a non-profit, volunteer lead organization committed to cultivating and developing youths in the sport of ice hockey. Both house and travel teams are offered to support players ranging from ages 4-18. There are more than 500 players and coaches registered with the NYHA, making it one of the largest in Michigan and the USA. Over the years, NYHA teams have won state and district championships, along with numerous tournament wins. The hockey season runs from early August (travel)/late August (house) through March. The house teams (beginning with the Squirt division) and the travel teams participate within the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL), the nation’s largest amateur youth hockey league. The Mini-Mite and Mite house players compete against local teams. For more information about joining the NYHA, please call the office at 248.735.0393, email info@noviyouthhockey.org or visit noviyouthhockey.org.
