Island Escape - A Senior Socialite Event

More fun than you can possibly stand – while seated! Come enjoy this fun-filled game with a beach ball. Chair volleyball is great for upper body mobility and joint flexibility. It enhances your muscle tone, reflexes, hand-to-eye coordination, and endurance. The game is played with a beach ball and a five foot high net. Rules are similar to regular volleyball except you are sitting down! This program is presented in partnership with the Glick Law Firm.

Senior Horseback Riding Lessons

Whether you’ve never ridden a horse before or you’re a seasoned pro, we will get you moving with the horses in an English riding lesson. Riders will learn to groom, saddle and care for their horse in addition to their riding lesson. Riding can improve low muscle tone, balance and overall health. Special mounting blocks help riders mount and dismount easily and safely. Different ability levels available please call before registering. A therapeutic riding instructor teaches the class to provide for any one with medical issues. All riders must wear full length pants, a sturdy shoe with complete foot coverage. There is a 200lb weight limit for this class.

Samba

It’s not the dance…but a fun variation of Canasta/Hand & Foot played with six decks and four players in teams of two. Unlike Canasta where only cards of the same number may be melded, Samba also allows runs of three or more cards in the same suit to be melded. The object is to score the most points by completing the minimum requirements for Sambas and Canastas. Come join the fun and make new friends.

NEW - 10+ Things You Need to Know to Enroll in Medicare

This two-hour program is designed to provide an overview of the basics of Medicare. Topics discussed include: Medicare hospital and medical insurance (Parts A and B), Medigap insurance plans, Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) and Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D). After participating in this program, participants will have a good understanding of the basics of Medicare which will allow them to make informed Medicare-related decisions for themselves or on behalf of someone else. Participants will be encouraged to learn more about Medicare by using a variety of online and print resources identified in this program. The program is presented by the Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP, Inc.). He will speak on Identity Theft, Credit Card and Check Fraud, Imposter and Tax Scams and other con artist scams which the Novi Police often see online and over the phone. Even with prescription drug insurance, prescription medications can be very expensive - but not taking your medicine isn’t a viable solution. This two-hour program is designed to familiarize you with various programs and organizations that may be able to help you lower the cost of your prescription drugs. Topics discussed include: government programs to help low income Medicare beneficiaries, prescription drug programs offered by pharmaceutical companies and patient assistance programs offered by non-profit organizations. The program is presented by the Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP, Inc.). Let Us Do the Driving!

The City of Novi’s Senior Transportation Program provides specialized transportation for residents of Novi ages 55 and older, or those younger than 55 with a limiting disability. The service cannot accommodate children. Vehicles are scheduled based on the needs of each passenger, location, time and the use of a lift-equipped bus, van or car. Trips are scheduled in the most efficient, cost-effective way using specific parameters that schedules multiple riders in the same vehicle at the same time.

Be independent and continue a healthy, active lifestyle. Rides available for medical appointments, shopping, enrichment and fitness classes, afternoon of playing cards or special events, going to the Novi Public Library, Meadowbrook Activity Center or Novi Civic Center.

Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm (last pick-up 4:30pm in Novi or 3:30pm out of Novi)
Saturday, 9am-3pm (last pick-up 2:30pm)
No transportation is provided on holidays when City services are closed.

Items such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs, bathing aids and protective garments are available for older adults in need. Available items change constantly, so it’s important that you call ahead to ensure that we have the item you need ready and waiting for you. Equipment donations are accepted based on need.
