Throwback Thursday 50’s Sock Hop

Put on your poodle skirt and saddle shoes, grab your hippest friends and get ready to rock around the clock, with the music of the 50’s at Senior Socialite’s, “Throwback Thursday Sock Hop.” Enjoy an evening of fabulous food, boogying down to the beat of Motor City Syndicate, and cool contests with fun prizes for Best Gal’s n’ Guy’s 50’s or Best Guy’s n’ Gal’s Dance. “Throwback Thursday Sock Hop” is coordinated by Senior Socialites, a collaboration of the Farmington Hills, Livonia, Northville, Novi, and South Lyon senior communities. The group is dedicated to sharing ideas, projects, activities and facilities to benefit the older adult population in the area. All proceeds benefit future group activities.

“10 Years Standing Together to Prevent Falls”

Throughout September

The 10th annual Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD) will be observed on Sep 22, 2017—the first day of fall. In honor of this notable milestone, the theme “10 Years Standing Together to Prevent Falls” was selected. Preventing falls is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your independence. There are aspects of your health and how you behave – as well as things in your surroundings – that you can change to reduce your chances of falling. Older Adult Services and Ascension-St. John Providence Community Health are partnering to raise awareness about preventing falls throughout September. Stand Up: Getting UP from a Fall

Planning ahead is the key to standing up to falls. Join Kim to learn fitness-based techniques for getting up safely. Using these practices can reduce the consequences of a fall and help you be more confident about getting up on your own and getting on with life. Novi Fire Department personnel will be assisting as well as sharing information about how to get help should you ever need it. Dress comfortably and bring a yoga sticky mat. (Brief kneeling is required. Always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.)

Let Us Do the Driving!

The City of Novi’s Senior Transportation Program provides specialized transportation for residents of Novi ages 55 and older, or those younger than 55 with a limiting disability. The service cannot accommodate children. Vehicles are scheduled based on the needs of each passenger, location, time and the use of a lift-equipped bus, van or car. Trips are scheduled in the most efficient, cost-effective way using specific parameters that schedules multiple riders in the same vehicle at the same time. Be independent and continue a healthy, active lifestyle. Rides available for medical appointments, shopping, enrichment and fitness classes, afternoon of playing cards or special events, going to the Novi Public Library, Meadowbrook Activity Center or Novi Civic Center.

Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm (last pick-up 4:30pm in Novi or 3:30pm out of Novi)

Saturday, 9am-3pm (last pick-up 2:30pm)

No transportation is provided on holidays when City services are closed.
