CAMP LAKESHORE

A part of the City of Novi fabric for many years, Camp Lakeshore offers hours of fun and exciting activities for campers using the wide open spaces and waterfront of Lakeshore Park. Participants will create delicious treats, build contraptions, experience nature frst-hand and share in zany science experiments. Campers will also enjoy water sports, relay races, kickball, soccer and much more.

CAMP POWERPLAY

Camp will keep kids engaged all day long with a variety of activities. While at Camp PowerPlay, participants will take nature hikes, water activities, attend Sizzling Summer Art Series performances, create crazy science experiments and play soccer, baseball and much more on the Civic Center Campus. The Civic Center Campus includes Ella Mae Power Park, Fuerst Park and the Novi Library.

Parent friendly features include extended hours (7am to 6 pm) with no additional fee. Daily rate available for campers participating one or two days per week; three or more days will be considered a full week. Between the hours of 7-9am and 4:30-6pm, early/late campers will take part in general recreation activities. Full camp activities take place between 9am and 4:30pm. Camp PowerPlay and Camp Lakeshore have a 1:10 counselor to camper ratio. Participants must bring a lunch and drink each day. Camp Lakeshore Counselor in Training

All weeks of Camp Lakeshore with the exception of Jul 2-6

The Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program is for young people who have completed at least the 9th grade. Being a camp counselor is a lot of fun - and it’s also a great responsibility. Participants will have a special training program where they will learn about being a counselor and work on developing skills necessary to be an effective leader. Additionally, participants will receive instruction in teaching techniques, camping skills, human relations and child development. Those who commit to the training program will discover a lot about themselves and their leadership potential. Two to three young people will be chosen per two-week period. Applications are available at cityofnovi.org. Applications can either be e-mailed  or be turned into the Novi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services office at 45175 Ten Mile Road, attention Cristin Spiller. Depending on the demand, participants will be eligible for additional two week periods. CIT training will be the week of June 11.

Novi Travel Camp

Come join the City of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department and travel daily to a different location for a fun field trip. Some of the locations we will travel to include Paradise Park, Legoland, Archery and much more. Participants will participate in various camp activities (kickball, soccer, arts and crafts, relay races and water games) before and after leaving for trips.

Carousel Acres – Day Camp on the Farm

Campers will experience life on the farm with brushing, feeding and caring for miniature horses and donkeys, calves, goats, sheep, bunnies, chickens ducks and more! They will ride ponies, spin wool, make crafts, play games, garden and cook. Carousel Acres has amazing animals from “the land down under”, butterfly house, reindeer, alpacas, and llamas too.
All campers must bring lunch, water bottle, closed toe shoes, sunscreen, swimsuit, life jacket (if needed)
and towel, please label with your child’s name. Latchkey is available before and after camp. For more

Let’s build a CITY! Making it move is the name of the game at this exciting camp. Kids will put their engineering and architectural skills to work as they build city themed models. Using Bricks 4 Kidz® proprietary LEGO kits and wireless remote controls, students will create dynamic city themed vehicles. These motorized builds will set the city in motion!!! Kids EmpoweredGirls and Boys Empowered/ Kids Empowered has provided empowerment programs for thousands of children for over 19 years. Each camp is designed to focus on different self-esteem and confidence building activities, social skills, and practical strategies to deal with the issues kids face with their friends and classmates at recess, in the lunch room, in the hallways, and in LIFE! We teach the Kids Empowered curriculum through interactive games, role playing, crafts, poster activities, team building, and physical fitness. Emotional Intelligence matters, learning these skills and strategies can benefit every kid no matter what their level of confidence. Each week has a different focus and themed activities. Wildwind Equestrian Center – Horse Camp

Learn a healthy sport that develops physical fitness and builds confidence. Wildwind has more than 30 horses trained for students. Riders from beginner to jump levels will be split into different groups according to ability. Grooming, tacking, feeding, and medical care will be taught for each level. The camp experience is rounded out with a horse show and potluck lunch on Friday for family and friends. All participants must fill out a Wildwind Liability Form. All riders must wear full length pants, a sturdy shoe with complete foot coverage.

Wildwind Equestrian Center – Tiny Tot Horse Camp

Young children ages 4-6 will get a hands-on introduction to riding. Each group riding lesson of six students will be attended by an instructor and helpers. Tiny Tots learn grooming, saddling, horse colors and more. Miniature horses are just the right size for the children to learn groundwork on. Games, bathing and feeding round-out the camp experience. Thursday at noon there will be a show for the family and friends of Tiny Tot riders. All participants must fill out a Wildwind Liability Form. All riders must wear full length pants, a sturdy shoe with complete foot coverage.

Girls Empowered: American Girl Camp

Girls will have fun doing themed crafts, games, fitness activities and role plays using the stories of American Girl Dolls. We will watch a little of the movie each day and witness how Gabriela used poetry to help her with her challenge of having a stutter. Nanea’s stories will highlight kokua - doing good deeds and giving selflessly - sometimes require sacrifice. Girls will have fun doing American Girl theme crafts, role playing, yoga & dance. Girls in 2-5 grades will also learn how to handle mean girl situations using “Chrissa Stands Strong”. Campers can bring their American Girl Doll or another doll. The Empowered Kids Tool Box for the Playground

Develop playground social skills to manage unfriendly situations with kids who are always deciding the activity, making negative comments or excluding. Build social skills that help kids be connected by knowing how to manage playground sticky situations, avoid hurt feelings and how to join groups. This camp will help build a toolbox of confidence, assertiveness, and strategies to deal typical situations that happen at recess. They will learn how to problem solve to be inclusive, deal with the rule changers, rule breakers, how to win and lose. Kids will learn words, tone of voice and how their body language should look. Being assertive is a life skill every girl needs to have in dealing with unfriendly friends, bullies, in negotiating, handling conflict, setting boundaries, to be taken seriously, and getting their needs met. Girls will learn and practice being assertive in their words, voice, and body language through role-playing and crafts. This camp will help all girls no matter what their confidence level is including girls who may be too aggressive in how they communicate to those who don’t use their voice at all. Hover Craft- Design Your Own Vehicle- Egg Drop Car

Campers will get to design, build and keep three projects that will teach them about the laws of motion, energy, air pressure, friction, lift speed and acceleration. Campers will build an air powered Hover Craft, a super car that is powered by more than one source of energy and an egg drop car that can cushion a raw egg that is dropped from high heights. All materials are provided for these projects.

Model Airplanes - Bridge Building - Electronic Gadgets

Has your child ever wanted to build an airplane, design a bridge or learn how a patrol car siren works?  Campers will use basic engineering skills to build a sound airplane that will actually fy and have a contest with other campers to see who’s bridge can hold the most weight. Campers will also build six different projects learning how different electronic components work including a burglar alarm, Morse Code transmitter and patrol car siren.

Creative Engineering Workshop

Work with an advanced three dimensional construction kit that participants will get to keep and take home. Design and build simple or complex models of a vehicle, a robot or buildings. Participants will also get a 3-volt geared motor to power up a moveable Radar Surveyor. Participants will learn the many ways to make a motor run. Hands on is the only way, so campers will build from directions, and from their imagination!

This is “Detroit Basketball” at its best. For boys and girls of all skill levels, the camp is designed to teach valuable skills as well as the concepts and rules of the game. Players will receive first-class instruction from the experience coaching staff as they work on skill development in the morning and participate in games/ contest in the afternoon. Camp will begin with an exciting player skills combine on Monday and end with a spectacular awards ceremony on Friday, delivering a camp experience kids and parents will never forget. The Meticulous Basketball Intermediate skill sessions are an intense yet comprehensive program designed to heighten fundamental skill. Athletes will develop the five pillars of basketball skill: dribbling, passing, shooting, moving without the ball, and catching. The training session will focus on form and speed. Sessions will include multiple breaks to encourage high effort during drills. The intermediate workouts will also include some competitive drills to measure skill under pressure. The intermediate workouts will benefit any basketball player participating in organized play.

This camp will focus on offensive positions (quarterback, running back, wide receiver and offensive line) and on defensive positions (defensive line, linebacker, defensive back, Heads Up Tackling). Special Teams instruction will take place throughout the mini-camp and each day of mini- camp will end with what campers love to do most: Participate in a flag football scrimmage! A current or former Detroit Lions player will be in attendance one day during the weekend to work with the participants, talk to the participants and sign autographs. Every year, the Ice Arena hosts an open house in appreciation of all of our customers. This year’s event will be on Wed, Aug 29. Come be a part of one of the largest Learn to Skate programs in the country! Our program follows the curriculum of the U. S. Figure Skating program. Musical Theatre Camp

The fast-paced thrill of live theatre is taught in this two-week workshop. In just 10 short days the students will go through auditions, blocking, character development, vocal and music lessons, choreography, costuming, and show rehearsals, ending with a complete musical theatre performance for family and friends the final evening of the camp. Each day isn’t just show business, however, as campers will play a variety of theatre and improvisation games, have an opportunity to learn about the non-performance aspects of the theatre, and build confidence and life-long friendships. The camp’s staff is all educational professionals with over 50 years of combined teaching and theatre experience.

Students must bring a snack and lunch to each session, and need to dress in comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes. The camp will end with a mandatory performance at 7pm on the final day of camp, and students are required to arrive by 6pm to prepare for the musical theatre performance.

What is the Youth Police & Fire Leadership Academy? The Novi Police and Fire Departments pride themselves on developing and maintaining strong partnerships with the community, including Novi’s youth.

The Youth Police & Fire Leadership Academy was created to provide area teens with an inside look at local law enforcement and fire prevention.

During a one-week, four hour a day course, Novi’s Public Safety staff will educate attendees on a variety of subjects pertaining to law enforcement and fire safety and prevention. Each Novi Youth Police & Fire Leadership Academy graduate will gain a deeper knowledge of how the Public Safety fits into the Novi Community.

The purpose of the Novi Youth Police & Fire Leadership Academy is to:

  • Increase understanding through education and interaction with the Police and Fire Departments.
  • Provide positive interaction with Department staff and to educate youth about the challenges and responsibility of law enforcement and fire prevention.
  • Create and develop responsible, well-informed youth citizens.
  • Build lasting and productive partnerships between Novi Public Safety and the community members we serve.

Police Youth Academy ClassQualifications

This class is made up a cross section of youth who have a connection with the Novi community. Participants must be:

  • Between 13 to 18 years of age
  • A Novi resident or attend school in Novi
