Get up, get moving and get fit with our fitness classes. We offer a variety of fitness classes that vary from high-impact aerobics to gentle strength building. Our professional instructors will guide you along the way to a better you. We all have busy schedules so we offer a wide variety of times so you can squeeze in some time and enjoy the benefits. This Barre inspired class uses the principles of low weights & high reps. This class will sculpt your abs, arms, thighs and glutes using weights and other props such as tubing, balls and a chair. Improve your stamina, strength, and flexibility through this program! All exercises are adaptable so you can work at your own pace while doing low-impact aerobics, strength training, and stretching, even from a chair. Build lean muscle mass in all the major muscles of the body and improve bone density with the use of hand held weights. You’ll benefit by preventing and/or reversing osteoporosis. Looking for improved circulation, strength, pain relief, range of motion, increased energy levels, alertness, and an active way to keep your body moving - this class is for you! We can achieve these goals through the use of exercise balls and bands. All activities are challenge by choice. Most exercises are done seated in a chair, so this class is especially accommodating for those with bad knees, hips, or other limitations. Participants will use resistance bands and light weights. Tai Chi, sometimes referred to as “meditation in motion” is an ancient Chinese martial art consisting of a sequence of slow, graceful motions that relax and strengthen the mind, body, and spirit. Wu Style is a family art with a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our instructor has taught locally at the Botsford Center for Health Improvement and University of Michigan-Dearborn. Tai Chi is endorsed by the Arthritis Foundation. Participants learn at their own pace, no experience is needed. Class is intended for the more active adult.

MLB Pitch, Hit & Run

This FREE competition at Ella Mae Power Park is an opportunity for young baseball and softball players to prove their ability to pitch, hit and run among the best in their age group. This is your chance to advance through three rounds of competition and compete in the National Finals on an all expense paid trip to the MLB All-Star Game in Miami, Florida. Finalists will compete on-field prior to shagging fly balls during the Home Run Derby and attend the All-Star Game. The road to Miami starts here!

Meticulous Basketball Beginner Skills Training

Meticulous Basketball provides a simple yet developmental curriculum to help novice players learn basketball skill. Athletes will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot in a noncompetitive training environment. The training session will focus on form rather than results to encourage success through trial and error. Despite a low intensity approach to skill development, athletes will still be expected to give their best effort and attitude. The words “I can’t” will not be tolerated. The “Take Your First Shot” skill workouts are perfect for the athlete who is developing interest in the game of basketball. The Meticulous Basketball Intermediate skill sessions are an intense yet comprehensive program designed to heighten fundamental skill. Athletes will develop the five pillars of basketball skill: dribbling, passing, shooting, moving without the ball, and catching. The training session will focus on form and speed. Sessions will include multiple breaks to encourage high effort during drills. The intermediate workouts will also include some competitive drills to measure skill under pressure. The intermediate workouts will benefit any basketball player participating in organized play.

Want to learn a new sport? Novi Parks will be presenting a new youth clinic series to teach kids about cricket this upcoming spring! Spring NFL Youth Flag Football Experience the Difference – Presented by: National Flag Football

This is a 5v5, non-contact, recreational, co-ed format. Teams are limited to 10 players to maximize playing time. This is an a great program for first time players who want to learn the fundamentals of football and players who may want to continue to enhance their skills before taking the next leap into tackle football. Games are played at ITC Community Sports Park and Northville Community Park on Sunday afternoons. Practices take place one hour prior to game time to ensure a convenient and fun experience for all. Participates will receive a NFL reversible jersey, flag belt and individual participation award. Games are officiated by MHSAA referees. There are no try-outs!

FLOOR HOCKEY

Youth Floor Hockey League

Sunday, Feb 26–Mar 26

This co-ed league will take place on Sundays with each session containing both a 30-minute practice followed by a game. The games will be played in a 6v6 format including the goalies. Coaches and assistant coaches will serve as referees during games. Registration includes five games and practices, jersey, and award.

Eye protection is required, but NOT provided. A pair of eye protectors can be purchased during registration for $10. Prescription eye glasses are sufficient. Mouth guards and shin guards are recommended. Volunteer coaches are needed! If you are interested in volunteering as a coach, please indicate so during the registration process. Coaches will receive $25 credit to their account for future use in any Novi Parks program.

Campers will participate in activities such as ice skating, an indoor human snow blower competition, and Novi’s very own Mini-Iditarod! This three-day camp is a perfect outlet for your child during their school’s Mid-Winter Break. Between the hours of 7-8:30am and 4:30-6pm, early/late campers will take part in general recreation activities. Full camp activities take place between 9am and 4:30pm. Participants must bring a lunch. Please dress for the outdoors!

SOCCER

Spring WSSL Recreational Travel Soccer – NPSC Thunder

Apr 10–Jun 11 (weekly practices and 8 games weather permitting)

The Novi Parks Soccer Club offers a REC travel soccer program called the Thunder that is governed by WSSL (Western Suburban Soccer League). There are no tryouts for REC division teams and they are formed provided there is a volunteer coach and enough players interested. Teams play clubs from surrounding communities at home and away locations on weekends and weekday evenings. Teams will practice twice during the week.

If an individual was not a part of a team from the previous season, they will be placed on teams based on availability. At the discretion of the parents, participants may play in an older division. New players will receive a full uniform including home and away jerseys, shorts, and socks. Returning players will use their uniform from Fall 2016. Covered shin guards are mandatory for all participants and jewelry, including earrings, will not be allowed. Please check the WSSL website at www.wsslsoccer.org for more information.

Spring House Soccer League

This instructional soccer league focuses on developing basic fundamentals while providing a supportive and fun environment. Practices take place once during the week with games generally occurring on Saturdays; There may be some weekday games. When registering, please indicate at least two preferred practice nights. This does not guarantee that you will have practice on one of those nights, as schedules are made based on the availability of the volunteer coaches. Covered shin guards are mandatory for all participants and jewelry, including earrings are not allowed. NOTE: Returning players will use uniform from Fall 2016 and will play on the same team providing the volunteer coach returns. New players are welcome!

Participants must be at least age 55 or over. Divisions: Men’s Monday, Women’s Wednesday and Mixed Thursday. Golf cart fee of $5 is paid directly to the golf course and is based on two people sharing a cart. All leagues will consist of partners playing a round-robin schedule. Scoring is based on individual scores for all leagues. Returning players will begin with the previous seasons handicap plus two strokes. One single payment is required that includes the registration, scoring, greens fees and all Golf Outing/Banquet fees (except the required $5 golf outing cart fee for Riverbank members and nonmembers based on two individuals sharing a cart). Additional Information: All golfers are expected to attend the league orientation meeting on Tuesday, April 18 at 10am. This meeting will be held at the Novi Civic Center. The Novi and Northville Parks and Recreation Departments will be offering another summer of softball for 2017. Games will be played on Tuesday mornings May through August in Novi and Northville. Participants must turn 55 years old or older during the calendar year of 2017, men and women are welcome. Registration will be taken on a team basis. American League and National League divisions will be offered based on skill level. Season will include 12 regular season games plus a single elimination tournament. ASA Softball Rules will be used with modifications, and a strike mat to determine balls and strikes. Balls and fields are included. Each team will pay the umpire prior to starting the game. Mandatory Managers Meeting on Tuesday, April 25 at Novi Civic Center at 10am.

Come join the tennis league that fits into any busy schedule! Fourteen matches are scheduled on a weekly basis with your opponent at a convenient time and location for both. All players must submit their USTA rating, which can be determined through www.usta.com (professionally OR self-rated). Players must be 18 years old by May 15, 2017. A league banquet at the end of the season is included and will take place on Wednesday, September 15.

Novi Youth Hockey Association

Novi Ice Arena is home to the Novi Youth Hockey Association. The NYHA is a non-profit, volunteer lead organization committed to cultivating and developing youths in the sport of ice hockey. Both house and travel teams are offered to support players ranging from ages 4-18. There are more than 500 players and coaches registered with the NYHA, making it one of the largest in Michigan and the USA. Over the years, NYHA teams have won state and district championships, along with numerous tournament wins. The hockey season runs from early August (travel)/late August (house) through March. The house teams (beginning with the Squirt division) and the travel teams participate within the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL), the nation’s largest amateur youth hockey league. The Mini-Mite and Mite house players compete against local teams. High School Hockey

Novi Ice Arena is the home of the Novi High School Wildcats and the Northville High School Mustangs varsity hockey teams. We are also the home for the Northville Prep and Girls teams. We host many high school hockey games and events each year.

SKATING CLUB OF NOVI

Established in 1998 with 25 members, the Skating Club of Novi is a volunteer organization that has been a member of the United States Figure Skating Association since 1999. Since then, the club has grown to over 150 members. The club is dedicated to the promotion of figure skating, and supports many activities at the Novi Ice Arena to further this goal. The Skating Club hosts the Annual Ice Show in the early spring that showcases the talents of our Learn to Skate students as well as our recreational and competitive figure skaters. Our coaching staff is for all levels of skaters, from beginner to competitive; individual freestyle and dance. In December, the Skating Club of Novi is hosts their annual Holiday Exhibition. 2017 Ice Review

The Ice Review is the Skating Club of Novi’s annual figure skating show performed by members of the Skating Club and participants from the arena’s Learn to Skate program.
